Therapy Approach

Utilizing a person-centered, trauma-informed, strengths-based approach, my work draws from attachment theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

Experience

Prior experience includes resettling evacuees from Hurricane Katrina and refugees from around the world, holding the hand of patients taking their last breath as a hospice social worker, and providing therapy to children in residential treatment. Serving with the National Health Service Corp, I delivered rural home-based therapy to children, adults and expecting mothers and served as the after-hours on-call crisis provider for the county. As a hospital social worker, I have assisted patients processing significant changes in their health, grieving loss and planning for the future.

I work with children with their parents, teens and adults. Special interests include parenting, attachment, grief, loss and religious transitions.

Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”
